Welcome

Welcome to the homepage of the Sexuality, Sexual Health and Relationships Education (SHARE) program.

Sexual health is a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well being in relation to sexuality and relationships; it is not merely the absence of disease. Sexual health requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and violence (WHO 2006).

Doing It Down Under and Overseas - University Students & Sexual Health Awareness Project

In the last five years Western Australia has seen an increase in HIV diagnoses and recent research demonstrates that WA's buoyant economy and our proximity to South East Asia and other high prevalence regions, has fuelled this increase.

University students (both local and international) comprise a large proportion of those travelling to and from countries with a high prevalence of HIV and other STIs which may leave them vulnerable to transmission.

The WA AIDS Council is developing a program aimed at increasing knowledge and awareness of HIV/AIDS and other STIs, and decreasing risk behaviours amongst WA university students, noth local and international.

The program has the potential to:

  • Provide training and resources around HIV and STIs to university health services and medical professionals.
  • Develop multi lingual sexual health resources.
  • Plan and implement student sexual health workshops.
  • Develop a networking/steering group.
  • Integrate international students into existing sexual health services.
